EDUFI Fellowship for doctoral students from Ukraine provides doctoral level students from Ukraine the opportunity to continue their academic work in Finland and supports the academic community and the reconstruction of higher education system in Ukraine.

Increase in EDUFI Fellowship for doctoral students from Ukraine grants from 1.1.2023

The decision applies to applications that are submitted on 1.1.2023 at the earliest.

The grants that have been applied before 1.1.2023 will remain on the previous level (1 500 € per month), even if the grant period would start or continue in 2023. The new grant will be 1 900 € per month.

Funding can be applied for inviting a doctoral student from Ukraine to Finland. The doctoral student can still be in Ukraine or can have fled Ukraine year 2022 or later due to the Russian attack to Ukraine. The doctoral student shall have a host university in Finland and can be a Ukrainian citizen or an international student who has fled from Ukraine and cannot return to their home country.

Priority can be given to candidates who have recently arrived to Finland.

The scholarship candidate should have completed a Master's degree. During the fellowship in Finland the students complete doctoral level studies either to Finland or to Ukraine.

All academic fields and all Finnish universities are eligible.

The fellowship period should begin within 6 months of the time of the application.

The size of grant:

  • 1900 euros/month (12 months)

In addition, the following needs-based grants are available:

  • 2000 € settlement allowance, in case the scholarship holder has arrived to Finland year 2022 or later
  • 300 €/month additional family allowance for scholarship holders with minor children

There is a rolling deadline for applications. The applications will be processed in order of arrival. The processing time is approximately two weeks. During the summer months, the processing time can be longer.

The following documents should be attached to the application:

  • motivation letter from the host university, confirming the willingness to commit to hosting and supervising of the scholarship candidate
  • CV of the scholarship candidate
  • short research plan.

 Both academic and administrative contact persons should be nominated for the doctoral student in the application.
