The different proficiency levels of the YKI test are basic, intermediate and advanced. (You can only take the test in Italian at the basic and intermediate levels.) You must complete all four subtests of the test at the same level.
If you need the certificate for a specific purpose, you should first find out the proficiency level of the YKI test you need to take.
When you apply for Finnish citizenship, for example, the level of your YKI certificate in Finnish or Swedish must be at least intermediate.
Demonstrating your language proficiency when applying for Finnish citizenship
When you apply for a job or study place, contact the employer or the educational institution to check which level of the YKI test they require.
If you need a certificate of your Finnish or Swedish skills for public administration tasks, for example, find out more about the Civil Service Language Proficiency Certificates.
Everyone can take the YKI test. This means that you do not need to have an official reason for taking the test. For example, you can use it to motivate you to learn the language.
