An injury, illness or a learning difficulty does not need to stop you from participating in the different opportunities offered by the Finnish National Agency for Education (EDUFI). You can apply for an accessibility grant from us to help you participate.

The accessibility grant is for you if you

  • have an injury, illness, learning difficulty or similar
  • need special arrangements to be able to participate in the different activities of Finnish language and culture programme, and
  • would incur extra costs because of these special arrangements.

You can receive financial support for things like accessible accommodation, assisted mobility, learning materials and other study-related arrangements or other necessary services.

As the needs of applicants vary greatly, the grant amounts will be decided case by case. Accessibility grants are awarded at our discretion.

If you need an accessibility grant, inform the contact person of the programme in question at EDUFI who will give you further information about how to apply for the support.

Then also inform your host (e.g. university or employer) about your needs.

Either you or your host will apply for the accessibility grant. It depends on the type of support needed, who should apply for the support and who it is paid to. The contact person of the programme in question at EDUFI will be able to give you further information about this.

The accessibility grant is applied for with a free-form application, detailing all appropriate expenses (e.g. accommodation, travel, costs of an assistant).

The grant decision will be sent to whoever submitted the application (participant, host university/employer).

Accessibility grants are awarded at our discretion, and awards depend, among other things, on funds available and if the host is able to provide accessible facilities.
