Universities outside Finland providing teaching in the Finnish language can apply to EDUFI for additional financial support for the academic year 2020–2021 if the coronavirus pandemic makes the provision of teaching in Finnish language and culture financially difficult for them.
Purpose of the support
Support can be granted to universities where the teaching of Finnish language and culture would have to be reduced significantly or discontinued as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
You can apply for financial support for the teacher's salary costs. The support cannot be used for the salary of a visiting lecturer sent by EDUFI.
Support amount and length of the support period
The maximum amount that can be granted is EUR 40,000. The support cannot be used as an additional salary exceeding the local salary level.
It is desirable that the university will participate in paying the costs, but the university's contribution is not an absolute prerequisite for granting the support. EDUFI may grant a sum that is smaller than the sum the university has applied for.
The maximum support period is the academic year 2020–2021. The period begins in autumn 2020 and can last a maximum of 12 months.
How can the university apply for the support?
You can apply for additional financial support immediately. The application period ends on 12 June 2020.
In the application, please provide a clear description of the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic for the subject and the future prospects of the subject. Justify your need for financial support carefully.
The application must be signed by a person authorised to sign on behalf of the university. The application can also be signed electronically.
Please send the scanned signed application (or electronically signed application) to email@example.com. Send a copy of the message to firstname.lastname@example.org. Write "Additional financial support for teaching Finnish language and culture OPH-1030-2020” in the subject field of the message.
If it is not possible to sign and scan the application, submit the application by e-mail with the signatory either as the sender or as the other recipient of the message.
Remember to retain the message you have sent and the automatic reply you have received from email@example.com.
Decisions are made as soon as possible after the application has been received. The contact person mentioned in the application will be informed of the decision.
Payment and reporting the support
We will pay the support to the bank account provided by the university in the application. The university will then pay the support as a salary to the teacher mentioned in the application.
The university shall submit an activity and financial report on the use of the financial support to EDUFI at the end of the support period.
For more information, contact firstname.lastname@example.org. The contact persons are Leena Kärnä and Krista Heikkilä.
