The Finnish National Agency for Education (EDUFI) announces a call for research proposals from public or private non-profit organizations established in Europe or Africa that operate within a consortium of European and African organizations.  The call is part of the Regional Teachers Initiative for Africa (RTIA). The initiative is financed by the European Commission, placing teachers at the heart of the Global Gateway strategy's education investment priorities.

The initiative is part of the EU’s Global Gateway investments.


The research call aims to generate deeper understanding for policy and practice relevant recommendations on how teacher training and teacher wellbeing at work can be made more effective in Sub-Saharan Africa, ultimately aiming to reduce teacher shortage and attrition in Sub-Saharan Africa. The call is divided into two themes of 1) : Teacher wellbeing at work and teacher retention, shortage, and attrition and 2) Teacher professional development. Total funding in this call for proposals:
€4.000.000  

Minimum grant amount: €400.000/grant 
Maximum grant amount: €800.000/grant  
+10% co-financing

In this call, eligible organizations are public or private non-profit organizations (universities, research institutes, research departments, I/NGOs etc.) that are established in Europe or Africa and act in a consortium. The minimum consortium size is 1 European and 2 African partners and the maximum size for the whole consortium is 7 partners (one lead and six partners). 

Please note that individuals and for-profit actors are not eligible as lead applicants or co-applicants.

The information webinar of the call was arranged online on October 11, 2024 at 13.00-15.00 (Helsinki time). The webinar was held in English and interpreted into French and Portuguese. Please find the webinar recording and slides below.

How to activate the Finnish Authenticator Application

To submit your application, you need to verify your identity through the Finnish Authenticator application. To activate the Finnish Authenticator Identification Service, you must first register a foreigner's identifier (UID) for yourself and then verify your identity using the Finnish Authenticator application. Please find step-by-step instructions here on the Suomi.fi website.

The deadline for the final questions and clarification is three weeks before the deadline of the call, that is, on November 8, 2024, and the final answers and clarifications will be provided by EDUFI by November 15, 2024.
