In autumn 2023 and spring 2024, the National Agency of the Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps programmes operating under the Finnish National Agency for Education (EDUFI) surveyed the benefits and significance of international cooperation and competence in today's world. The mapping was carried out through dialogues and discussion forums with invited teaching and education operators and societal influencers, which were organised in collaboration with communications agency Kaskas Media Oy.

The aim was to create a diverse and effective atmosphere for social discourse about internationalisation in the world of today.

The project started in autumn 2023. In the first phase, EDUFI commissioned an analysis of the social debate on internationalisation amongst adolescents and young adults, the most prominent voices and narratives. The analysis examined the topics related to internationalisation in which the Finnish National Agency for Education can participate in the discussion.

Next, education providers and societal influencers from various sectors were invited to discuss and verbalise the benefits of internationalisation, why internationalisation should be invested in and what actions should be taken to promote it. These discussions were carried out at three dialogue events in autumn 2023 and two forums in spring 2024.

The analysis and discussions served as the basis for compiling an argument repository on the significance of internationalisation, steps to promoting internationalisation and the Guidelines for Internationalisation overview:

  • The argument repository collects arguments on the importance of the internationalisation of adolescents and young adults. 
  • The steps to promoting internationalisation offer concrete tips for promoting internationalisation at educational institutions. 
  • The Guidelines for Internationalisation overview summarises the perspectives on the internationalisation of adolescents and young adults highlighted in the discussions and provides background information about the current state of internationalisation.
