Registering for the YKI test

1. Click on the link below and go to the YKI registration site.
2. Find the test for which you wish to register.
3. Click on the REGISTER button.
4. Log into the service using suomi.fi e-Identification or type in your e-mail address.
5. Fill in your information on the registration page. Check that all the information you put in is correct.
6. You will receive an email with a payment link. This message comes from address noreply(a)opintopolku.fi.
7. Pay the test fee at the latest on the due date. The message tells you the due date (the last possible date on which you must pay) of the fee. To participate in the YKI test, you must pay the fee on time.

You can ask for special arrangements in the YKI test if you have

• difficulties with reading
• difficulties with writing
• problems with your eyesight
• hearing problems
• some other illness or disability that makes it more difficult for you to take the test.

Special arrangements may include

• giving you more time to do the test
• not asking you to fill in an answer form
• taking the test in a smaller room
• using aids as agreed
• using larger text.

The special arrangements concern taking the test, not the grading of the test. They ensure that you have the same possibilities of taking the YKI test as everyone else. Your test will be graded in the same way as other participants’ tests.

If you use sign language, you do not have to do the speaking and listening comprehension subtests.

Statistics on special arrangements

• In 2019, special arrangements were made for 85 participants.
• In 2020, special arrangements were made for 46 participants.
• In 2021, special arrangements were made for 33 participants.
• In 2022, special arrangements were made for 33 participants.
• In 2023, special arrangements were made for 53 participants.

This is what you do to ask for special arrangements

1. First, you register for the YKI test normally on the registration page.
2. Fill in and send an application form (a document in which you ask for special arrangements) to your test centre. Email the form to the test centre during the registration period for the test. You can find the contact details of test centres and application form in the link and attachments below.
3. Ask for an expert statement (official assessment) of the kind of special arrangements you need. Send the statement on the special arrangements by post to the Centre for Applied Language Studies of the University of Jyväskylä:

Make sure you send both your application and the statement during the registration period of the YKI test. This way, the test centre can make any special arrangements before the test date.

Please note that the statement on special arrangements is a confidential document. Outsiders may not see it. The test organiser may not read it at the test centre. This is why you should send the statement directly to the University of Jyväskylä. The experts at the Centre for Applied Language Studies decide if the special arrangements you need are possible. The test centre will contact you and tell you about its decision on the arrangements and give you any other instructions you may need. 

A doctor, special needs teacher or psychologist can give a statement on the special arrangements you need. You can get a statement on an illness or disability from a doctor. If you have difficulty reading or writing, the statement must come from a special needs teacher or a psychologist who is an expert in this field. The statement must contain the following information:

• what your reason for asking for special arrangements is
• how your illness, disability or difficulty with reading or writing makes it more difficult for you to take the test
• what special arrangements you need.

A patient document or your medical history is not the same as a statement.
