Subtest days for the YKI test will be piloted in autumn 2026
What are the subtests of the YKI test?
The YKI test consists of four subtests:
- speaking
- listening comprehension
- writing
- reading comprehension.
On a normal YKI test day, all four subtests are taken on the same day.
How is a subtest day different from a normal test day?
A subtest day differs from a normal test day in the following ways:
- You do not need to take all four subtests.
- You can register for one or two subtests.
- You only take the subtests for which you register.
- You receive grades only for the subtests that you take.
The first subtest day will take place on 16 September 2026. Registration starts on 17 August 2026 at 10.00.
On the 16 September 2026 subtest day:
- You can only take the subtests of the Finnish or Swedish intermediate level YKI test.
- You can only take the writing and listening comprehension subtests.
Registration and payment
When you register for the YKI test:
- You choose which subtests you will take.
- You pay for all the subtests that you register for.
A paid registration is binding. You cannot change your registration at a later date.
The subtest day is a pilot
The Finnish National Agency for Education wants to know whether the subtest day is good for YKI test participants.
After the test day, the Finnish National Agency for Education will ask for feedback from test participants.
The participants will receive a YKI certificate for the test as normal.
