The Erasmus+ Teacher Academies action supports the development of teacher education in European cooperation. The networks promote multilingualism and cultural diversity, develop teacher training in accordance with the EU's educational policy priorities and advance the achievement of the goals of the European Education Area.

The aim of the Teacher Academies action is to establish European partnerships between teacher education institutions and education providers.

The action emphasises networking, mobility, and innovative practices while promoting multilingualism, language awareness, and cultural diversity.

The objectives of the Teacher Academies networks are:

  • To develop teacher education by creating European networks that bring together providers of initial and continuing teacher education, as well as stakeholders such as teacher organisations and authorities.
  • To foster international cooperation by collaborating with countries across Europe and sharing knowledge and experiences to improve teacher education.
  • To enhance mobility by designing and testing various mobility models (virtual, physical, and blended) that are integrated into teacher education programmes.
  • To address challenges in the teaching profession (e.g., attractiveness of the sector, teacher shortages, and the status of the profession) by offering learning opportunities at all career stages and considering teachers' well-being.

Furthermore, the cooperation aims to advance one or more horizontal priorities of the Erasmus+ programme.

The Teacher Academies action offers diverse opportunities for organisations involved in teacher education and teaching. In the action, the term "teacher" broadly includes trainers and early childhood education staff.

Eligible applicants (beneficiaries and stakeholders) may include:

  • Teacher education institutions providing initial or continuing education for teachers at ISCED levels 0–3 and early childhood education staff, including vocational teachers.
  • Ministries, public bodies, and other entities responsible for education policies, teacher education provision, and defining teacher qualification requirements.
  • Training schools enabling practical training as part of teacher education.
  • Other organisations such as early childhood education centres, teacher organisations, NGOs, and other relevant actors connected to the project.

Only organisations based in EU Member States or Erasmus+ programme-associated countries (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Turkey) are eligible to participate.

Projects are implemented by networks comprising at least 6 organisations, meeting the following minimum requirements:

  • 4 organisations from EU Member States or programme-associated third countries (with at least 3 organisations from EU Member States)
  • 4 providers of initial teacher education
  • 1 provider of continuing or in-service teacher education
  • 1 training school

The coordinating organisation of the project must always be a teacher education institution.

Teacher Academies partnerships must select one or more key priority objectives and promote them while creating synergies with other goals.

The aim is to provide high-quality education and support teachers' professional development through courses, teaching modules, or other learning opportunities on topics such as:

  1. Inclusion and diversity
  2. Well-being
  3. Environment, climate change, and sustainability
  4. Digital capacity building of teachers, learners and organisations,
  5. STEM and STEAM
  6. Common values, civic engagement and participation

Projects must implement a clear and comprehensive framework that includes the following actions:

  • Developing teacher education in collaboration with various stakeholders.
  • Designing and delivering new learning content together.
  • Creating learning opportunities, including mobility periods.
  • Inviting schools, especially training schools, to test and share new innovative teaching methods.
  • Using tools for virtual mobility and collaboration, such as eTwinning, to test and disseminate results.
  • Employing Online Language Support (OLS) to improve language skills for mobility.

Projects have a duration of 3 years, with a maximum grant of €1.5 million.

The application process is managed by the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA). The organisation coordinating the project submits the application to EACEA, which evaluates and selects the projects to be funded.

Application deadline

The 2025 call for proposals ends on 26 March 2025 at 18.00 Finnish time (17:00 CET).
