The Nordic Master programme offers funding to joint Nordic programmes at the Master's level. This initiative of the Nordic Council of Ministers supports both the Master's programmes themselves and their students' international mobility in participating institutions of higher education. There will be no new Calls for Proposals in Nordic Master. The Finnish National Agency for Education acts as the administrator of the programme.

The Nordic Master programme internationalises higher education in the Nordic Region through high-quality joint Master’s programmes. These programmes enable the collaboration of Nordic and non-Nordic students from Europe and beyond.

The objective of the Nordic Master programme is to

  • develop and facilitate cooperation between higher education institutions (HEIs) in the Nordic Region through systematic attention to solving issues and challenges in organising joint programmes
  • support research-based joint programmes and offer graduates good career opportunities in research as well as elsewhere in working life
  • develop collaboration between HEIs, industry and the labour market in the Nordic Region
  • reach measurably good results in students’ learning outcomes (knowledge, competences, skills)
  • help students and other participants to create useful networks.

Between 2007-2020 the Nordic Master programme has funded 41 Nordic programmes.

Four new Nordic Master programmes supported in the 2020 call

The new programmes are:

Nordic Master in Migration and Integration, the collaboration is coordinated by Roskilde University (DK), together with University of Bergen (NO).

Nordic Master in Visual Studies and Art Education, the collaboration is coordinated by Aalto University (FI), together with Aalborg University (DK).

Nordic Master Programme in Arctic Environmental Forensics, the collaboration is coordinated by Örebro University (SE), together with University of Southern Denmark (DK) and Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NO).

Nordic Master’s degree programme in Innovative Sustainable Energy Engineering, the collaboration is coordinated by Aalto University (FI), together with KTH – Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm (SE), NTNU - Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NO), DTU - Technical university of Denmark (DK) and Chalmers University of Technology in Göteborg (SE).
