The instructions on this page are intended for you if
- you have received a conditional decision issued by the Finnish National Agency for Education on sufficient studies for teaching in a foreign language (decree 986/1998, section 21) and
- the decision requires you to complete an aptitude test.

The decision states the teaching post that you will be eligible for after you have completed the aptitude test.

In the aptitude test, you demonstrate that you have the knowledge and skills required to work in your profession in Finland.

Finnish National Agency for Education's decision determines the subject areas covered by the aptitude test. Contact a university to arrange the aptitude test.

The following universities arrange the aptitude test

  • University of Helsinki 
  • University of Jyväskylä 
  • University of Oulu and
  • Åbo Akademi University 

The aptitude test can be completed in Finnish or Swedish. The aptitude test for class teachers can also be completed in English at the University of Oulu. The aptitude test for subject teachers can also be completed in English at Åbo Akademi University.

The university charges a fee for arranging the aptitude test

Once you have completed the aptitude test, the university will issue you a separate test certificate.

Present the certificate issued by the university and the Finnish National Agency for Education's decision on sufficient studies to the employer. Together they will prove your eligibility.
