Ski instructor’s certificate of competency

If you have completed ski instructor training in Finland and wish to practise the profession of ski instructor in another EU or EEA country, you may need a ski instructor’s certificate of competency. These certificates are issued by the Finnish National Agency for Education.

 

Applications based on acquired rights

 

The Finnish National Agency for Education can grant you a certificate of competency if you are a citizen of an EU/EEA country or Switzerland, you have before 24 June 2019 completed Level 3 Ski Instructor (Hiihdonopettaja) training organised by the Finnish National Association of Snowsport Instructors, and meet one of the following conditions regarding acquired rights: 
•    You have at least 200 days of professional experience gained between 25 June 2014 and 24 June 2019, or
•    You have passed both the Eurotest and Eurosecurity test.

 

Applications based on professional cards issued under the Memorandum of Understanding or participation in the common training test

 

If you hold a professional card issued under the Memorandum of Understanding before 24 June 2019 or have successfully passed the common training test (CTT) and want to apply for a ski instructor’s certificate of competency, please contact the Finnish National Agency for Education by email at recognition [at] oph.fi.

Applying for a decision

  • Apply for the ski instructor’s certificate of competency (Level 3) at Studyinfo

Fill in the application form and attach to your application copies of the following documents:

  1. Certificate of Level 3 Ski Instructor (Hiihdonopettaja) training awarded by the Finnish National Association of Snowsport Instructors before 24 June 2019
  2. Proof of nationality
    If you have changed your name since you completed the training, tests or work experience, also attach to your application documentary evidence of the name change (a marriage certificate, extract from the Population Information System or similar).
  3. One of the following:
  • Account of having at least 200 days of professional experience gained between 25 June 2014 and 24 June 2019.
    You should attach to your application employment certificates which identify your employer and position and state the duration of the employment relationship in days.
  • Certificates of completed Eurotest and Eurosecurity tests
  1. Official translations of the documents

Official translations: An authorized translation is required if the original document is in a language other than Finnish, Swedish or English. The translator must be an authorised translator in Finland or an official translator in the source country, working in the language pair in question. Register of authorised translators: akr.opintopolku.fi

An electronically signed decision will be sent to you by e-mail, or you will receive the decision by post. The decision will be issued in Finnish or Swedish.

If you wish to apply for the certificate using the paper-based application form, please request for the application form and instructions by sending an email to recognition [at] oph.fi. Please note that you will receive the certificate faster by using the electronic application form.

Fee charged for the decision

A fee of EUR 192 will be charged for the decision. The invoice will be sent to you by post once the decision has been made.

If you use the electronic form to apply for the decision, you will pay the fee electronically. More detailed instructions for the electronic payment can be found on the application form. If you apply for the decision using a paper-based application form, an invoice for the fee will be sent by post.

Act on the Recognition of Professional Qualifications 1384/2015
Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2019/907 on establishing a Common Training Test for ski instructors under Article 49b of Directive 2005/36/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council on the recognition of the professional qualifications


3.    Recipients of personal data

Personal data provided in the application and appendices is processed by officials who work in the Finnish National Agency for Education. 

 

4.    Retention of data

The Finnish National Agency for Education keeps the data provided in applications for 60 years.

 

5.    Rights of the registered

A registered person has the right to access his/her personal data, to review his/her data, to demand rectification of data and to limit the processing of his/her data.
A registered person has the right to complain to the supervisory authority (the Data Protection Ombudsman), if he/she suspects a violation in the handling of personal data.
