Finnish National Agency for Education collects annually international mobility statistics of pupils in basic education and students in general upper secondary education. Pupils in basic education undertake study visits abroad etc. Students in general upper secondary education go to short-term study visits or to exchange student periods that last at least one semester.

 

Mobility in general upper secondary schools relative to the number of first-year students was 10 precent in 2021-2022.
Pupil mobility in comprehensive schools is usually over 2 000 pupils annually, but last academic year, only about 500 students participated in mobility.

 

Student mobility in general upper secondary schools consist of both exchange students and other students. In the academic year 2021-2022 approximately 2,000 students went abroad.

 

Visits by representatives of other countries and cultures is the most common form internationalisation at home in schools. The second most common form of internationalisation at home is theme days and workshops.
Just under a quarter of general upper secondary school students' and just under a fifth of comprehensive school pupils’ periods abroad from Finland were blended mobility.
