Learning through play is essential. Understanding the importance and pedagogical possibilities of play for the child in the promotion of wellbeing and learning is essential for ECEC.

What is early childhood education and care?
ECEC is the basis of our education system. The significance of early years for a child’s development is great. This page gives you information on ECEC services in Finland.

National Core Curriculum for ECEC in a nutshell
EDUFI draws up the national core curriculum for ECEC, which is a basis for local curricula. An individual ECEC plan is drawn up for each child in ECEC centres and in family daycare.

Child’s early childhood education and care plan (in English)
The preparation of a child’s early childhood education and care plan is based on the Act on Early Childhood Education and Care (540/2018) and the National core curriculum for early childhood education and care (2022).
