Finnish vocational education and training

The purpose of vocational education and training (VET) is to increase and maintain the vocational skills of the population, develop commerce and industry and respond to its competence needs.

Finnish vocational education and training (VET) provides competencies for working life and lifelong learning. It is aimed at young people who have completed basic education,  and adults who are already in working life offering opportunities for individuals also for upskilling and reskilling in different career stages. The purpose of Finland’s VET is to maintain people’s vocational skills and competence, and to ensure that everyone completes at least an upper secondary qualification. Moreover, VET develops working life, commerce and industry and responds to their competence needs.

VET is mostly offered in Finnish and Swedish, but there are also some vocational qualifications which are offered in English. Finnish VET is primarily intended for individuals who have access to and are available for the Finnish labour market.
